So, you would convert the letter into a number, 44. The number of the row the letter is on always comes before the number of the column; the letter "S" would be 14. You would apply this method to all the letters in the message and end up with a series of numbers. You must always be aware of which square you are using- the 5 by 5, or the 6 by 6; they have different correspondence to letters.

Decrypting a message would be finding a point on the coordinate plane (using the same analogy from above). If one of the numbers in the message was 24, then you would convert it into a point- (2,4). You would go 2 to the right, then 4 down, to land on R. You would repeat this for the all the letters of the message until you get a fully decrypted message.
